The aims of the Fellowship are:
- To support the charitable activities of The Order of St John, particularly The Eye Hospital.
- To form local branches to promote, advance and encourage the work of the Fellowship.
- To enable members to keep in touch with St John and each other.
- To help former members in need, especially the incapacitated, housebound and those in residential or care homes.
- To promote wellbeing, healthy living and friendship.

Many branches support the work of St John Ambulance who provide First-aid training and event First-aid provision. We also offer support to St John Priory Groups whose responsibility is to deal with Priory affairs such as fundraising, Order of St John events and much more, at a local level.
